Truck driver arrested for fatal crash

Posted on Thursday, September 29th, 2011 at 5:25 pm

A 60 year-old man has been arrested for allegedly causing a fatal motorcycle accident and then leaving the scene of the accident. The 53 year-old man who was riding the motorcycle died at the scene and leaves behind his wife and eight children. The accident occurred south of Houston, Texas on Interstate 45.

The 60 year-old was driving a concrete truck and only stopped to move the motorcycle off of the road. Investigators were able to find him after a hotel employee discovered the whole thing had been captured on a security tape.

He has been charged with causing an accident resulting in injury or death and could spend up to 10 years behind bars and forced to pay $10,000 in fines if convicted.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim who died in this tragic accident.

Man in critical conditon was driving drunk

Posted on Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Employees at a Racine County bar called a SafeRide vehicle to take an intoxicated man home, but the patron refused to get in the car and instead took off in his own vehicle. Soon afterward, the 46 year-old man rammed into a dump truck on Highway 11 and was thrown from his SUV. He is currently in critical condition at the hospital.

Witnesses say that bar employees and the SafeRide driver tried to block the man’s exit after he managed to get behind the wheel, but he drove at them, nearly running them over. Officers say this is the man’s fifth DWI charge, which makes it a felony offense.

Two automakers issue recalls

Posted on Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 at 7:44 pm

Two auto manufacturers, Honda and Subaru, have issued recalls on a combined 800,000+ vehicles. More than 311,000 Honda Pilots made between 2009-2011 and 500,000 Subaru Outbacks, Legacies, Foresters, Imprezas, and Saab 9-2xes are being recalled.

Subaru Outbacks and Legacies made between 2010-2011 are being recalled for a potential fire danger in the wiper motor. No accidents or injuries have been reported from the defect. The 2002-2007 Imprezas, 2003-2008 Foresters, and 2005-2006 Saab 9-2xes are being recalled due reports of the front control arms breaking, making it difficult to control the vehicles. At least seven drivers have reported the problem, and two said they lost control of the car. Fortunately, no crashes were caused by the malfunction.

New simulator to increase motorcycle safety

Posted on Thursday, September 8th, 2011 at 5:17 pm

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is taking a new motorcycle safety program around the state to promote awareness of motorcycle safety. In August 2010, the state introduced the federally-funded THE REF, which stands for Transportable High-End Rider Education Facility. Riders sit on a motorcycle-riding simulator that puts users inĀ  life-like motorcycle situations.

The program aims to educate new and experienced riders about motorcycle safety, like how to avoid an accident. THE REF includes demo motorcycles and interactive test, along with the simulators. The Department of Transportation will take the program to nearly 60 locations around the state to promote motorcycle safety awareness. Since it’s introduction last summer, there has been 16 fewer motorcycle-related fatalities.

Driver causes deadly pedestrian accident

Posted on Thursday, September 1st, 2011 at 4:49 pm

A woman is currently being held without bond for her connection in the deaths of three teenagers. The 48 year-old was driving her car under the influence of anti-depressants when she failed to stop at a red light and struck three boys. A 16 year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, a 17 year-old boy died at the hospital, and a 17 year-old was taken off of life support earlier this week after suffering from a severe brain injury.

Investigators say she was having an argument with her husband on the phone at the time of the accident. The woman failed field sobriety tests police administered. She faces nearly a dozen charges in connection to the murders.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the young victims involved in this accident.
