Honda investigating random airbag deployment

Posted on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 at 5:28 pm

According to safecar.gov, nearly a dozen drivers have filed complaints involving side airbags deploying for no reason in their 2008 Honda Accords.

The most recent complaint comes from a 26 year-old man from Georgia. He says he was driving on Interstate 85 when his driver’s side airbags suddenly exploded. The man says the airbags entirely obscured his left view and he lost his hearing for about a day. After safely pulling over, he discovered his vehicle showed no signs of impact.

Honda is inspecting the man’s car, but says they do not plan on issuing a recall at this time. The automaker claims it has not found a common link between the complaints.

State politician charged with DWI

Wisconsin’s former state senator Randy Hopper, who recently lost his seat to Democrat Jessica King, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday evening. While his exact blood alcohol content was not released, it was confirmed to be over the legal limit of 0.08.

Police pulled over the man after a witnessed called 911 concerned about a black Suburban driving erratically down Highway 151 in Peebles. Hopper refused to breathe into a breathalyzer and subsequently failed field sobriety tests. At the Fond du Lac County Jail, he also failed a preliminary breath test.

Hopper was released early Monday morning and could potentially lose his license or pay a fine for his first drunk driving offense.

Driver faces 30 years behind bars

Posted on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 at 4:52 pm

A Wisconsin man faces potentially 30 years behind bars for causing a fatal car accident over the summer. The man admits to heavily drinking before getting behind the wheel; he says he started drinking whiskey and beer around noon and was at a bar where he drank nearly eight pitchers of beer just before the accident.

The drunk driver hit a pickup truck in Grand Falls with four people inside. One passenger, a 23 year-old man, was killed when he was ejected from the vehicle on impact. The three other passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Law enforcement says that his blood alcohol level was more than three times over the legal limit.

Decline in car vs. deer accidents

Posted on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011 at 8:31 pm

According to a new study conducted by State Farm Insurance, car-deer related accidents are on the decline nationally. Wisconsin ranks seventh in likeliness to collide with a deer as well as having a one in 97 chance of hitting a deer.

November, followed by October, are the most dangerous months for car-deer crashes. During the fall, deer begin to mate and migrate, thus increasing the risk of hitting one while driving.

Wisconsin law enforcement suggest, despite most motorists’ reactions, not to evade the animal. Swerving out of the way can result in more serious injuries. Turning on your vehicle’s brights and keeping an eye on roadside ditches can help avoid an accident.
