A 37 year-old man plead guilty this week to his fourth drunk driving conviction after he was arrested in October.

The man was pulled over after he rear-ended a police car at a stop light on Bridge Street. The officer found empty beer cans and an uncased rifle in the suspect’s back seat. Further investigation lead to the discovery of uncased bows and arrows. He is facing charges of illegal firearm possession by a felon.

Preliminary breathalyzer tests revealed that the man had a 0.132 blood alcohol content, over the legal limit of 0.08. However, due to his prior convictions he cannot have a blood alcohol content higher than 0.04.

Roadway deaths under 600 in 2011

Posted on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 at 5:08 pm

In 2011, car-related fatalities in Wisconsin were under 600 for the fourth consecutive year.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 569 people died on state roadways. This number is seven more than in 2010, but 59 fewer than the state’s five-year average. The last time Wisconsin had traffic fatalities under 600 was 84 years ago, from 1924-1927.

Motorcycle deaths dropped by 18 percent, down from 103 to 85. Unfortunately, pedestrian, bicycle, and car-related fatalities slightly increased.

The director of DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Safety states that there is no specific cause or factor for the decrease in traffic deaths, but claims that most of the fatal accidents were caused by irresponsible driving habits and bad decisions.
