GM recalls 16,000 cars

Posted on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 at 6:58 pm

General Motors is recalling 16,198 2012 Chevrolet Impalas and 2012 Buick LaCrosses in the US and Canada. The company says it is recalling the vehicles because the cars’ sensors and power steering may be defective. There have been no reports of injuries or accidents related to the recall.

GM wants to inspect nearly 12,000 2012 Impalas for proper installation of the power steering hose. If the hose is misrouted, it could cause fluid to spray on a hot engine and create a fire. Over 4,000 2012 LaCrosses are being recalled to reprogram the electronic brake control module. If not reprogrammed, the vehicle could fail to detect a sensor malfunction, which can cause drivers difficulty controlling driving path and speed.

General Motors recently issued a recall for 2,100 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles after it was found that they had defective steering wheels.

The automobile manufacturing company became aware of the problem after it was reported that the wheel came loose during driving. No injuries were reported because of the defect, and it was found to be caused by a bolt on the steering wheel that was not installed correctly.

The company claims that all of the cars that were affected were removed from dealerships and repaired.

What should you do if your accelerator gets stuck?

Posted on Friday, February 12th, 2010 at 3:24 pm

Toyota Corp. has faced scrutiny the past few weeks for a problem with the accelerator in some of its vehicles. The problem causes the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably.

When this occurs, many drivers tend to freak out and do not know what steps to take to prevent a major accident. As a first step, drivers should try to calm themselves down and attempt at least one of the following procedures: remove the keys from the ignition; pump the brake; or apply the emergency brake.

The danger of car door defects

Posted on Thursday, December 17th, 2009 at 11:56 am

Each year, thousands of people are ejected from their vehicles through open doors. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of these accidents are due to broken door latches or strikers.

These broken door latches or strikers may be caused by wear and tear. However, some are caused by manufacturing or installation defects. When these type of defects occur, individuals involved in accidents may be able to sue the manufacturer or the company who installed the door for damages.
