Fon du Lac cyclist injured in hit-and-run

Posted on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 at 12:59 pm

A 22-year-old Fon du Lac woman was struck while riding her bicycle by a hit-and-run reckless driver this Wednesday, according to police.

As she was heading southbound on North Brooke Street around 4:45 p.m, she was struck by an older, heavy-set man, driving a rusty blue car, according to the woman.

“We’re seeing a lot more people riding bikes,” Deputy Chief Kevin Lemke Lemke said. “It is healthier, and when gas prices go up and the economy is down, people ride bikes to save money. Whenever you have a lot of bikes and cars trying for the same real estate, there will be accidents. Unfortunately, the bicyclist is going to lose,” said Lemke.

Lemke said drivers should be more cautious when it comes to cyclists as the summer months begin.
