The vehicles collided when the motorcyclist tried to pass the car on the right while the car was making a right-hand turn. He was transported to the trauma center at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa following the accident.

Posted on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 at 5:31 pm

A 47 year-old man, with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit, hit and killed a Lake Geneva man riding his motorcycle. He also hit another car with two women inside. One passenger was six months pregnant but is suspected to make a full recovery. The crash happened late last month in Wauconda. Investigators say the man was not wearing his helmet at the time of the motorcycle accident.

The man told police he bought a 12 pack of beer about 2 hours before he got behind the wheel. They found beer cans and bottles, as well as a bottle of tequila, in his car. The driver has a record of drunk driving, with three past convictions. He told officers he “blacked out” after he drove onto Route 176.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim who died in this accident.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation discusses motorcycle safety

Posted on Monday, May 2nd, 2011 at 6:15 pm

May is motorcycle safety awareness month, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has been discussing ways in which motorcyclists can prevent crashes.

The Department of Transportation found that 100 motorcyclists in Wisconsin are killed each year. These deaths occur for many reasons, including distracted drivers, motorcyclists not wearing helmets, and even road defects. May can be an especially tricky month for motorcyclists when navigating the roads because it is the month when snow thaws and potholes become exposed.

The Department of Transportation also stresses the importance of wearing helmets when riding a motorcycle. One study found that helmets can prevent 37 percent of the deaths of motorcyclists.
