Wisconsin Bill Lowers Minimum Liability Coverage

A new bill has been passed in Wisconsin that will lower the amount of coverage needed for auto insurance. This bill was created in an attempt to lower the high auto insurance rates that occurred in 2009 due to a required increase in minimum liability coverage.

Wisconsin’s current law stipulates that drivers must have a minimum liability coverage of $100,000 for people injured in an accident, as well as $15,000 that would be used for property damage. The new bill will cut both of these numbers in half, therefore requiring a lower minimum for coverage and enabling drivers to pay less for car insurance.

Advocates of the bill are eager to have more affordable car insurance. However, those against the bill have said that the new minimum liabilities will not pay for expensive automobile accident costs and will leave victims of accidents without money to pay for their medical needs.
