Wisconsin police officers cracking down on uninsured drivers

Police officers in Wisconsin have been on the prowl for uninsured drivers since the Wisconsin law on vehicle insurance was passed in June 2010.

In Janesville, 1,210 people have been ticketed in 2011 for not having insurance or proof of insurance. This number is staggering compared to the number of people that have been ticketed in 2011 for not having insurance in Lake Geneva, which is only 10. Regardless of the number of people that have been ticketed, police officers are routinely asking everyone for their proof of insurance during traffic stops, and drivers who are uninsured are forced to pay a fine of $500.

Vehicle insurance is not only legally required, it is also important to have in the event of an accident. Vehicle insurance can cover costs for vehicle repairs and medical expenses.
