Woman convicted of distracted driving death

A 21-year-old Sun Prairie woman has been charged with homicide by negligent driving after she hit and killed a pedestrian in 2010. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the driver hit the UW-Madison man while she was texting on her cell phone.

The jury determined that the woman did not see the man, nor stop, even after he hit her windshield and fell under her car due to distracted driving. She drove for 80 feet with him trapped beneath her vehicle before stopping.

Her sentencing trial is scheduled in two months. Until her sentencing trial, the 21-year-old will be free on signature bond.
