Teen who caused deadly speeding accident sentenced to jail

A 19 year-old Fond du Lac woman was sentenced on Monday to one year in county jail and six years probation after she pleaded no contest to three counts of negligent vehicular homicide. The teenager was speeding last winter when she lost control and flipped her SUV several times, killing three of her friends.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that the driver and her supporters claim she was peer pressured into driving over 100 mph that night. The road on which the accident happened had a posted speed limit of 50 mph, which has now been lowered to 35 mph.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison student will begin her sentence in six months and will be allowed release for work and community service. Under her probation, she will not be allowed to enter bars and will be subjected to random drug testing.
