According to Walworth County Sheriff’s Office police officers, a teenage driver apparently crossed the center line of southbound Highway 120 in his 1998 Ford F-150 pickup and slammed his car into Police Lt. Jeffery Kreft’s 1998 Saturn nearly head-on. The crash occurred on Saturday, May 25.

Kreft suffered life-threatening injuries from the crash that occurred at 6:30 a.m. and was declared dead at 7:12 a.m.

The Walworth County District Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the case, but no charges have yet been filed.

Before becoming a police officer in Walworth County, Kreft served the village of East Troy, Genoa City, and the City of Delavan. He is survived by his wife, Kelly, and their two sons, ages seven and nine.
