Hyundai recalls 260,000 vehicles for corrosion and drive shaft issues

Hyundai has issued a recall for 260,000 of its vehicles – 240,000 Hyundai Sonata and Azera sedans manufactured in 2005 through 2011 and 20,300 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport crossovers with corrosion and axle separation issues.

According to Hyundai, the Sonatas and Azeras may be subject to rusting on its underside, potentially resulting in rear wheel misalignment and, in a worst case scenario, axle separation. This recall affects vehicles sold in the following 20 states: Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Additionally, the drive shaft on the right front axle of the Santa Fe Sports may disengage itself from the shaft, making maneuverability a problem.

Auto defects such as these can lead to serious vehicular accidents that can endanger the lives of innocent people.
