Federal organizations investigate GM

General Motors Co. allegedly used a regulatory gray area to its advantage when it released a technical-service bulletin to dealers in 2005 mentioning that some GM models’ ignition switches could unexpectedly malfunction.

This action allegedly exempted them from needing to issue a recall, since they technically released a notice of the potential vehicle malfunctions.

The bulletins, which asked dealers to inform drivers of the issue, are the subject of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. The Department of Justice, Senate, and House of Representatives are also participating in the investigation.

The bulletins could be extremely incriminating, since GM didn’t issue and official recall for years after the release of the technical-service bulletins.

Injuries resulting from car accidents caused by vehicle malfunction can be devastating. If you have sustained injuries because of negligent manufacturing, you could be eligible to pursue compensation.
