Toy gun causes three-vehicle wreck

An eleven-year-old boy pointed a toy gun out of a car window, acting as the catalyst for a three-vehicle crash that resulted in the hospitalization of two in Milton, Wisconsin, ABC13 reported on July 11.

According to Rock County Sheriff’s Department Captain Jude Maurer, the boy was playing with an airsoft gun in the back seat of his grandmother’s vehicle as she was driving down the highway, and the driver of the vehicle behind them became spooked at the sight of the gun.

Maurer said this driver felt scared and concerned about her safety, and she hit the brakes immediately, causing the driver behind her to hit her vehicle’s rear end. This vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and was hit head-on by another car.

Although they do not believe any of this was intentional on the part of the youth, police officers at the Rock County Sheriff’s Department suggest that the boy serve a year of probation to understand the severity of the situation.
