Seven years in prison for drunk driver in fatal accident

Twenty-six-year-old Merrill resident Ashley Baumann was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment and another five years of extended supervision by Circuit Judge Jay Tlusty for drunkenly crashing a car two years ago, resulting in the deaths of her two friends, WAOW reported on November 4.

Prosecutors in Baumann’s case initially recommended a 17-year prison term for her. In a statement, Baumann said she couldn’t remember details of the night that led to the accident, and that she was “sorry for the pain and heartache I have caused this community.”

After DNA evidence was presented, Baumann was found guilty of two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and one count of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle in May of this year by a Lincoln County jury.
