Two killed in horse-drawn buggy accident

A father and his son were killed instantly after the horse-drawn buggy they were riding in was hit from behind by a pickup truck traveling along South 64, Horsetalk reported on March 30.

The traffic accident occurred west of 350th Street in the town of Colburn at around 6:52 a.m.

The baby’s 21-year-old mother, who was with the pair at the time of the incident, suffered from serious injuries and was flown via a helicopter to a regional hospital. All three were ejected from the buggy upon collision.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that their preliminary investigations showed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Both vehicles were headed eastbound at the time of the incident, reports added.

A 66-year-old male from the Cornell area, unnamed in the report, was the operator of the pickup truck involved in the incident.

Maintenance crews had to close South 64 for around three hours to contain the collision.
