Ford issues recall for 433,000 vehicles in North America

Ford Motor Co. issued a safety compliance recall for an estimated 433,000 vehicles in North America, which is comprised of certain 2015 Focus, C-MAX, and Escape vehicles due to a complication with their body control module, according to the Ford website on July 2.

Ford’s team has learned that the engine of these vehicles may remain in motion even after the vehicle’s user has already turned the ignition key into the “off” position and has removed the key, or even after the user has already pressed the engine’s Stop/Start button.

This auto defect poses a compliance issue with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s FMVSS 114 rule regarding theft protection and rollaway prevention, which tackles the concern for vehicles with propulsion systems that are not easily shut off – they leave the danger of the vehicle rolling away even after said vehicle was already parked; they also run the risk of increasing carbon monoxide poisoning in a closed environment due to their propulsion systems remaining active.
