Two die, 16 others injured in car-school bus collision

Two individuals lost their lives while 16 others were wounded on Saturday, August 22 at around 2:35 p.m., after a car-bus collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and Barron County Highway B just north of Cumberland, Wisconsin.

The bus involved in the incident belonged to the Spooner High School volleyball team, whose members did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

According to preliminary investigations, the car involved in the incident was headed west on County Highway B when the driver missed a stop-sign at Highway 63. The car was then hit by the northbound school bus. The driver and the front passenger died at the scene of the accident. The second passenger was taken to the Cumberland Memorial Hospital and later on at the Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment of critical injuries.

The 15 other wounded members of the volleyball team incurred minor injuries and recieved treatment at Cumberland Memorial Hospital before being released.
