Police officer dies in Dane County crash with state DNR vehicle

A 33-year-old police officer with the McFarland Police Department in Wisconsin lost his life in a two-vehicle collision at around 12 p.m. on Monday, November 23, on County Road N in the Town of Albion in Dane County, located southeast of Madison.

Authorities said the victim has just started his shift when the car accident occurred.

According to Dane County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Elise Schaffer, a 25-year-old Fitchburg woman, who was operating a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources pickup truck at the time of the incident, crossed over the center line, causing a head-on collision with the police officer’s squad car.

The woman who caused the incident, who is a DNR employee, was taken to a hospital in Janesville to receive treatment for her minor injuries. The police officer was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
